Children with adoptive parents and families with looked-after children bear intense emotions because of their past experiences. Life Story Work will help children to understand how their previous experiences have shaped their behaviours and feelings.
Life Story Work allows the child to gain ownership of their history which can often be disjointed or bewildering. The intervention is a fully child-centred approach where sessions entail a practitioner using play and innovative methods to promote comprehension of the child’s history and identity. The caseworker helps the child to “move through their story” safely and in a fully supported manner. The sessions also allow caregivers to understand the history of the child, how the child feels now and how they can assist the child into the future.
